In accordance with a Royal letter, dated 29 May 1719, Páll Jónsson Vídalín was to prepare a new Icelandic law-book on the model of the Norwegian lawbook. The project was completed, except for Book II, but was never utilized. MSS Icelandic 14 and 16, appear to be the only surviving manuscripts of the text. Archibald Cary Coolidge (1866-1928) was an American educator. He was a Professor of History at Harvard College and the first Director of the Harvard University Library from 1910 until his death. Coolidge was also a scholar in international affairs. Elizabeth Bateman Partington was the wife of Frederick Eugene Partington (Brown '79) and was Coolidge's grandmother.
